Breakaway Abkhazia Amends Election Code
The Parliament of breakaway Abkhazia passed amendments to the election code, which prohibits running for the presidency to those persons, who have not lived in Abkhazia for past 5 years.
Georgian breakaway Abkhaz region will elect its new leader in October presidential elections, which are internationally condemned as illegitimate.
In 1999 the Abkhaz de facto authorities submitted the law on presidential elections, under which a person, who did not speak in Abkhazian freely, was prohibited to run for presidency.
By then the Parliament did not adopt the law, which defined the term of residence of a presidential candidate on the territory of Abkhazia.
