MP Quits Parliament, Runs in Adjara Elections
MP Koba Khabazi of ruling National Movement-Democrats party announced on May 31, that he will quit the Georgian Parliament and will run in the June 20 local snap elections of the Adjara Autonomous Republic’s legislative body.
This move was motivated by the decision of the Interim Council of Adjara, according to which those candidates running in the Adjarian elections, who are simultaneously members of the Georgian Parliament are prohibited to run for the local legislative body in Adjara.
Koba Khabazi was one of the leaders of the Our Adjara movement, a major opposition to Adjara’s ex-leader Aslan Abashidze.
