Georgian MoD Officials Inform NATO over Defense Policy
A 10-member delegation from the Georgian Ministry of Defense (MoD) left for Brussels on June 1 to hold discussions with representatives from NATO concerning the Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process (PARP), the Georgian Defense Ministry reported.
The PARP is offered to NATO partner states on an optional basis and draws on NATO?s extensive experience in defense planning.
For each two-year planning cycle, NATO partner states, including Georgia, wishing to participate in the PARP undertake the responsibility of providing information on a wide range of subjects– including their defense policies, developments with regards to the democratic control of their armed forces, national policy relating to NATO’s Partnership for Peace cooperation, and relevant financial and economic plans.
On June 7, Georgian Defense Minister Gela Bezhuashvili, Chief of the General Staff of Georgian Armed Forces Givi Iukuridze and Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili will leave for Brussels and hold talks with the NATO leadership.
?The Defense Minister will discuss the Individual Partnership Action Plan [IPAP] thoroughly with the representatives of NATO,? Irakli Chikovani, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, told Civil Georgia on June 1.
Georgia submitted its IPAP to NATO in April, during President Saakashvili visit to Brussels.
