Tskhinvali Demands Georgian Police Checkpoints be Dismantled

Breakaway South Ossetian authorities demanded on June 4, that the Georgian side dismantle its police checkpoint in the village of Tkviavi, which lies less then 10km from the South Ossetian captital,Tskhinvali.


Georgian State Minister Goga Khaindrava, who is in charge of conflict resolution, and Boris Chochiev, the de facto Special Affairs Minister of the breakaway republic, met in the village of Tkviavi today to discuss security issues pertaining to the conflict zone.


The Georgian Authorities refuse to dismantle checkpoints, which, according to Tbilisi, were set up to fight smuggling in the region.
