Candidate for CoE Secretary General Visits Tbilisi
Terry Davis of the United Kingdom, who will run for the Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General, arrived in Tbilisi on June 8 for a two-day visit.
Mr. Davis told reporters, upon his arrival in Tbilisi, that during his meetings with the Georgian parliamentarians, he will acquaint them with the reforms he intends to carry out if elected to the post of CoE Secretary General.
In the forthcoming elections, scheduled for late June, Terry Davis will run against the current Secretary General Walter Schwimmer, from Austria, who was elected to a five year term in 1999.
Georgia openly declared that it will support Terry Davis in the upcoming elections. Georgian officials say that previous recommendations by Davis significantly helped Georgia become a member of the CoE, in 1999.
