Ex-Adjarian Finance Minister Arrested

Former Finance Minister of the Adjarian Autonomy, Davit Abashidze, was arrested for the alleged misuse of power and misappropriation funds in excess of 140,000 Lari (USD 70,000).

Abashidze was the Finance Minister for two years under former president Aslan Abashidze?s government, but resigned from his post early in 2003.

Former Adjarian official dismissed the allegation as ?politically motivated.?
