Ruling Party Meets in Adjara
Members from the National Movement-Democrats, the parliamentary majority party, will hold session in the Adjara Autonomous Republic between June 11-13.
The session of the ruling party, which will be attended by President Saakashvili, is part of a pre-election campaign for the June 20 local elections in Adjara.
Mikheil Saakashvili said on June 11, while addressing the members of the parliamentary majority, that upcoming elections ?are of vital importance for Adjara.?
President Saakashvili launches his party’s election campaigning in Adjara Autonomous Republic on June 12.
He called the local population to vote for his supporters. ?If we win, Levan Varshalomidze [who now leads the Interim Council of Adjara] will become the chairman of the Adjara?s Supreme Council [local parliament],? Mikheil Saakashvili said. ?He is a very honest person,? Saakashvili added.
The President also reiterated that Adjara would retain its autonomous status. ?Adjara?s autonomy poses no threat to Georgia?s territorial integrity,? he said.
?But at the same time, any kind of separatism attempts will be strictly eradicated,? President Saakashvili said.
