U.S. Hails Georgia’s Progress in Dealing with Trafficking

On June 14, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell welcomed the significant progress made by several countries, including Georgia, “in dealing with their trafficking problems to avoid being designated a Tier 3 country.”

“We’re pleased that some countries have moved up and out of the Tier 3 status: Belize, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Dominican Republic, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Surinam, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Unfortunately, several countries have slipped downward to take their place,” Colin Powell said while making remarks regarding the 2004 Trafficking in Persons Annual Report.

The U.S. Department of State’s report on Trafficking of Persons, issued on June 14, said that the Government of Georgia is making significant efforts to comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.
