EU Commissioner Visits Georgia
Janez Potocnik, the European Union Commissioner who together with Commissioner G?nter Verheugen is in charge of European enlargement, will be in Georgia on July 5-6.
The Commissioner will discuss details of the EU?s Neighborhood Policy with the Georgian leadership.
EU foreign ministers, who met in Luxemburg on June 14, decided to include the South Caucasus countries ? Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, in the European Neighborhood Policy, which is designed to offer member countries a privileged relationship with EU
Commissioner Janez Potocnik will meet with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania, Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili and other officials, as well as representatives of the Parliament and non-governmental organizations, during his visit to Georgia.
According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the European Commission will draw up a special document on Georgia, known as the Country Report, which will provide the basis for an action plan designed to bring Georgia closer to EU standards.
