Ardzinba Accuses Opposition of Coup

Outgoing President of breakaway Abkhazia described capture of the governmental offices by the opposition on November 12 as ‘an armed coup.’

‘[Sergey] Bagapsh [leader of the opposition] and those behind him demonstrated that are ready to take over the power with all means, including with bloodshed,’ RIA Novosti quotes the statement issued by the Abkhaz President.

The statement also says that criminal charges have been brought in regard of capturing governmental offices.

‘I am sure, everybody, who are behind this criminal act will be strictly punished,’ the Abkhaz President’s statement reads.

Prime Minister of Abkhazia Nodar Khashba has also condemned seizure of the governmental offices as ‘a coup.’
