Two Georgian Peacekeepers Injured in South Ossetia

Two Georgian peacekeepers were injured as a result of a shootout on November 19 near the Georgian village of Tsveriakho in the South Ossetian conflict zone, chief of the Shida Kartli regional police department Aleksandre Sukhitashvili said in a phone conversation with Rustavi 2 television.

?It is for sure that the fire was opened by the Ossetian side, because the position from where the shots were fired is under the South Ossetian side?s control,? Sukhitashvili said.

He also said that the shooting erupted during the process of rotation of the Georgian peacekeepers in the conflict zone.

?Both Russian peacekeepers and OSCE observers, who were on the scene, witnessed the incident,? the regional police chief added.

The South Ossetian side has not yet commented on the incident.
