Tbilisi Protests Moscow’s Meddling in Abkhazia

On December 1, the Georgian Foreign Ministry summoned Vladimer Chkhikvishvili, Ambassador of Russia to Georgia, to express protest regarding the presence of the Russian First Deputy Interior Minister and Russian Deputy Prosecutor General in breakaway Abkhazia.

“Georgia expressed strong protest and demanded the termination of the illegal activity on the territory of Abkhazia, Georgia, which is adding to the escalation of the situation and may give rise to uncontrollable processes in this region of Georgia, in which case the Russian side will bear full responsibility,” the statement issued by the Georgian Foreign Ministry on December 1

The Georgian Foreign Ministry underlined that “any unilateral act carried out by the Russian side in Abkhazia, Georgia, without consent of the Georgian official authorities constitutes a gross violation of the international obligations assumed by the Russian Federation… and can be estimated as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.”
