Reports: Major Reshuffle in Government Anticipated
Unofficial reports say that as a result of a governmental restructure, the State Security Ministry will merge with the Interior Ministry. It is anticipated that this latest change will be followed by a new round of shuffles within the cabinet as well.
While no official confirmation has been made regarding these changes; but the Georgian media reported that President Saakashvili will make a statement over the government reshuffle later this evening.
According to the unofficial reports, current Minister of Security Vano Merabishvili will take over as Interior Minister after that Ministry merges with the Security Ministry.
Interior Minister Irakli Okruashvili will be appointed as Defense Minister, replacing Giorgi Baramidze, who will take over the position of Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council.
Gela Bezhuashvili, who is currently the Secretary of the National Security Council, will become Justice Minister and will replace Giorgi Papuashvili. It is assumed that Papuashvili will become Chairman of the Central Election Commission.
