Justice Council Denounces Judicial System’s Criticism

On December 13, Pavle Kublashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Justice Council, which is in charge of overseeing the judicial system’s performance, denounced criticism by some civil society organizations towards the judicial system as groundless.

On December 10 the Tbilisi-based legal aid group Article 42 of the Constitution published a list of, as the non-governmental organization put it, of “the most unfair” judges. That same day the human rights advocacy NGO Liberty Institute also criticized the judicial system for yielding to governmental pressure.

“Making these kinds of statements without having proof is inadmissible,” Pavle Kublashvili said at a news conference on December 13.

He also said that there are all the necessary conditions to “preserve the judicial system’s impartiality and independence.”
