Abkhazia Sets Date for Repeat Presidential Polls
The Parliament of breakaway Abkhazia set January 12 as the date for repeat presidential elections, Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported.
The Parliament also decided on December 15 that those wanting to run for President may apply to the Central Election Commission for registration, starting on December 17. The deadline for submitting applications is December 29.
The decision to hold repeat presidential elections was made after a powersharing agreement between former presidential rivals Sergey Bagapsh and Raul Khajimba was signed on December 6. According to this agreement, Bagapsh will run for President while Khajimba will run for Vice-President.
No other contender for the presidential post has registered yet.
