Russian MP Hails PACE Recommendations to Georgia
MP Andrey Kokoshin, who chairs the Committee for CIS Affairs of the Russian lower house of Parliament told RIA Novosti new agency that the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly?s (PACE) draft resolution over Georgia, especially regarding the Adjara Autonomous Republic, ?mostly reflect the Russian parliamentarians position.?
The PACE draft recommendation issued late in December 2004, which will be discussed at the session in late January, describes Adjara?s status as ?an inadequate model of autonomy? and calls for the Georgian government to revise this model ?without any delay.?
Russian MP Andrey Kokoshin said that the autonomous model of Adjara, where the residents are ?deprived of right to elect the leadership? largely determines international society?s assessments towards the Georgian authorities? readiness to solve similar problems related to the territorial arrangement of the country.
