State Wants to Confiscate Professional Unions’ Assets
The Parliamentary Committee for Legal Issues is considering a draft law which envisages confiscation of all assets currently owned by the Professional Unions of Georgia, which serves as a governing body for many unions throughout Georgia.
These assets include 55 facilities throughout Georgia, mainly recreation centers and resorts, as well as several sport complexes, both in Tbilisi and in other regions as well. The government intends to privatize these facilities.
Irakli Tughushi, who is the long-time Chairman of the Professional Unions, said at a news conference on February 21 that the organization is ready to hand over 90% of its property to the state.
