Saakashvili Calls for Unity

President Saakashvili said on September 6 that unity was a top priority for Georgia and criticized opponents for pushing for, as he put it, issues of secondary importance.

?These miserable weaklings [referring to opponents] fail to understand one thing: today we have a historic chance to finally unite and strengthen Georgia and it needs much effort and unity,? he said. ?Not a single generation of Georgians in the past ten centuries had this kind of chance.?

?This is much more important than any type of election campaign,? Saakashvili said. ?Fortunately, our multi-ethnic society, consisting of Ossetians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, etc., and of different religious groups has understood much better than some politicians that for us unity is a top priority and all the rest is of secondary importance, not worth even paying any attention to.?
