PACE Delegation Visits South Ossetia
Matyas Eorsi and Kastriot Islami, co-rapporteurs from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) with responsibility for monitoring Georgia, paid a fact-finding mission to the South Ossetian conflict zone on September 13.
The PACE co-rapporteurs held talks with both the secessionist authorities and the head of the Tbilisi-backed South Ossetian provisional administration, Dimitri Sanakoev.
?We have acquainted them with our views on conflict resolution and pointed out that the only correct approach is to create an autonomous South Ossetia within a uniform Georgian state,? Sanakoev said following the talks with the PACE delegation.
In Tskhinvali, Eorsi and Islami met with South Ossetian Parliamentary Speaker Znaur Gassiyev and Foreign Minister Murat Jioyev.
?We have arrived in Tskhinvali to listen to the South Ossetian side, to find out what kind of guarantees they want to receive from the Georgian side,? the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee quoted Eorsi as saying on September 13.
The delegation is also expected to visit breakaway Abkhazia on September 14.
