Saakashvili Speaks of Education System
President Saakashvili said on September 12 that the government would do its best to develop the education system.
?Along with the restoration of Georgia?s territorial integrity, the government?s top priority is to develop the education system, to create an educated society and to promote people working in the education sector,? President Saakashvili told a group of teachers in Borjomi.
He reiterated an earlier commitment, that starting from January 2008 secondary school teachers would receive a salary increase, bringing their average earnings up to GEL 200 (about USD 120) per month.
?By 2010 there won’t be a single school in Georgia without a modern heating system; all the schools will have as many computers as any school in a leading country, all the schools will have new textbooks,? he said.
President Saakashvili was eager to stress, what he said was a new governing principle in the educational system: competition. This, he said, was “unlike in previous years when corruption reigned.”
