Saakashvili Heads for UN General Assembly

President Saakashvili will leave for New York later on Monday to participate in the UN General Assembly?s annual General Debate.

Saakashvili?s UN speech, which is scheduled for the evening session on September 26, will come less than three weeks after he lashed out at the UN.

In a bellicose speech on September 6, Saakashvili said Georgia did not need international organizations’, and in particular the UN?s, as he put it, ?amoral and meager recommendations,? but instead, needed meaningful action from them to achieve a breakthrough in conflict resolution.

As in his three previous UN speeches, Saakashvili in his address is again expected to focus mostly on conflict resolution issues.
