Saakashvili Meets Ruling Party MPs

Incumbent presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili met with lawmakers from his ruling National Movement Party on January 11.

Lawmakers said after the meeting that implementation of Saakashvili?s pre-election promises topped the agenda.

?Mikheil Saakashvili has said clearly that many things have been identified that need to be addressed urgently, including staffing policy,? Nino Burjanadze, the acting president, said. ?Now the most important thing is to implement all the pre-election promises as soon as possible.?

?Of course our focus is now on the implementation of the pre-election promises,? Mikheil Machavariani, the vice-speaker of Parliament, said. ?We should also start preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections. You know that international observers have noted the need for certain legislative improvements and we should also be ready for that.?
