Foreign Ministry of the self-styled South Ossetian Republic reiterated on July 19 its willingness to send humanitarian aid to Georgia’s north-western Svaneti region, which suffered from a flood on July 16.

One local resident died and more then 30 families from five villages in Mestia district of Svaneti were left without homes as a result of the flood.

South Ossetian de facto President Eduard Kokoev initially offered to send humanitarian aid to Svaneti on July 17.

Georgian MP Givi Targamadze, who chairs the Parliamentary Committee for Defense and Security, hailed the de facto South Ossetian authorities’ proposal on July 18.
