Court Extends Ex-Audit Chief’s Pre-Trial Detention Period
On July 22 the Tbilisi district court remanded Sulkhan Molashvili, the former chairman of the State Audit Agency and close ally of ex-President Shevardnadze, for another three months.
Molashvili, who is accused of alleged misappropriation of 3 million Lari (USD 1,57 million) was expected to be released after he made a payment of USD 265,000, but was instead ordered to return to prison, were he already served a 3-month pre-trial sentence. Sulkhan Molashvili was arrested on April 22.
Tbilisi chief prosecutor Valeri Grigalashvili said that Molashvili will be released only after “he reimburses 3 million Lari.”
