Government to Increase Budgetary Expenditures
Today the government discussed amendments to the law on the state budget for 2004, which envisage increasing budgetary expenditures by GEL 220 million (approximately USD 110 million).
“This is a precedent in the history of independent Georgia–instead of cutting expenditures the government offers Parliament to increase budgetary expenditures. This is possible because of increased budgetary revenues” Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania said at the cabinet session on July 26.
He said the increase is possible due to both improved tax collection and financial aid from the donor countries.
It is anticipated that the Parliament will approve the budgetary amendments in early August.
