U.S. Calls for Avoiding Further Conflict in South Ossetia

The United States urges the Georgian authorities to move quickly to avoid further conflict in breakaway South Ossetia.

?We have been in contact with Georgian officials. We’re also making the point that it’s – with Russian officials – that it’s important to work with the South Ossetian authorities to end hostilities immediately,? Adam Ereli, Deputy Spokesman of the U.S. Department of State said at a news briefing in Washington on August 12.

As he stressed, the United States hails that Russia has called for an emergency meeting of the Joint Control Commission. ?We support that call,? Adam Ereli added.
