Opposition MPs Set up New Party
Opposition non-partisan MP Koba Davitashvili said at a news briefing on September 15 that a new, as he put it, ?a western-type political movement? will be set up on the bases of the political party Union of National Forces – Conservatives. The party is currently led by another opposition MP Zviad Dzidziguri.
However, Koba Davitashvili refrained from naming future partners of the movement, citing fears that they might fall under the government?s pressure.
Like Koba Davitashvili, the Union of National Forces ? Conservatives party was an ally of the ruling National Movement-Democrats party, led by President Mikheil Saakashvili.
?I call on those members of the National Movement, who try to defend their principles instead of their chairs, to join us,? Davitashvili said.
