Reports: Russian Helicopters Patrol Border with Georgia

Helicopters of the Russian air force launched regular patrols of the Russian-Georgian border, in order to “to fight the terrorism threat,? Interfax news agency reported on September 18, quoting an unnamed source in the Russian government.

The report also stated that Russia has recently extremely heightened its security measures at its borders with Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The news follows a statement made by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Valeri Loshchinin, who told Interfax news agency on September 17 that ?terrorist training bases still remain in Pankisi gorge,? in the north-eastern part of Georgia, near the Russian border.
