Georgian Passengers Barred from Entering Russia

Around 40 Georgian passengers, who arrived in the Moscow airport on September 20, were not permitted to enter the Russia territory by the Russian border guard officials, citing ?visa irregularities.? As a result, some 20 Georgian citizens had to return back to Tbilisi on September 21.

However, the Georgian Border Guard Department condemned the Russian counterparts? decision to deport the Georgian citizens ?as groundless.?

?The documents and passports of the Georgian passengers were thoroughly checked in Tbilisi, before their departure to Moscow,? Shalva Londaridze, the spokesman for the Georgian Border Guard Department, told Civil Georgia on September 21.

According to Shalva Londaridze, when a passenger is deported the Border Guard Service should issue an act explaining the reasons for deportation, that has never happened in this particular case.
