Government Works over Draft Law on Tax Amnesty

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania said on October 8 that the government will submit to the Parliament draft law envisaging amnesty for those businessmen who have evaded paying taxes before January 1, 2004.

The proposal was discussed on Friday at the cabinet session chaired by President Mikheil Saakashvili. He said that businessmen are not to be blamed for evading paying taxes. ?They were the victims of the system,? he added.

The draft law will not apply to those businessmen who already face criminal charges for tax evasion.
