Deputy Chief Prosecutor Resigns
First Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, Davit Sakvarelidze, announced on June 11 about filing for resignation with an intention of going into politics.
The announcement about resignation comes less than a week after it was reported by the Georgian news agencies that Sakvarelidze would become ruling National Movement party’s majoritarian MP candidate in Krtsanisi – one of ten single mandate constituencies in the capital Tbilisi. Sakvarelidze stopped short of confirming this report; he, however, confirmed that he was going into politics.
A ruling party official told Civil.ge on Monday that Sakvarelidze’s possible candidacy in Krtsanisi single-mandate constituency was under consideration, but no final decision was yet made.
