Parliament Backs Sending Platoon to EU’s Mission in Central African Republic
Parliament approved on June 22 sending of one platoon to the Central African Republic to contribute EU’s military training mission (EUTM RCA).
The platoon will join five Georgian military officers who are currently deployed with the EU’s mission in the Central African Republic.
A platoon involves from 20 to 30 soldiers – the precise number of troops to be sent to the mission will be determined later, Secretary of the National Security Council, Irine Imerlishvili, told lawmakers on June 22.
Georgia joined the EU military mission in the Central African Republic by sending there over 150 soldiers in June, 2014.
Number of Georgian troops in the mission decreased to about 85 soldiers in December, 2014, who served there till March, 2015. After that Georgia has been contributing five officers to the mission.
