Russia Anticipates Terrorists’ Infiltration from Pankisi

(Tbilisi, May 28, Civil Georgia) – “Terrorists hiding in Pankisi will not stay without any activity for a long time,” Chief of the North Caucasus Border Guard Department of the Russian Federation Evgeni Bolkhovitin stated at the news briefing.

Russian media sources report quoting Russian border guard official that “terrorist organizations financing groups in Pankisi will make fighters harboring in this Georgian territory to infiltrate Russian Federation and organize terrorist acts here.”

To prevent penetration of terrorists in Russia, he said, additional forces of the border guards are deployed near the border with Georgia.

Georgian State Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania admitted that up to 100 Arab and 800 Chechen fighters are hiding the troubled Pankisi gorge.
