Shevardnadze’s Visit to St. Petersburg Delayed as Abkhazia Gets Invitation

(Tbilisi, May 27 2003, Civil Georgia) President Eduard Shevardnadze’s office stated he made “no decision” regarding the possible visit to St. Petersburg anniversary ceremony. The statement came after it was reported that the Abkhaz de facto government was also invited to attend.

“We have sent an official letter to the St. Petersburg leadership regarding the invitation of the Abkhaz delegation and were told that they had not sent any invitation to the Abkhazians”, – Shevardnadze’s Press-Secretary Kakha Imnadze stated.
