Describing Separatist Leader as ‘President’ Angers Tbilisi
The Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed protest on January 26 regarding the usage of the term “President” by the Russian officials when referring to the leaders of the secessionist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
In a statement issued on January 25, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that “Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Valery Loshchinin held talks with President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity and discussed those political and economic issues which represent mutual interests.”
In a Georgian Foreign Ministry’s protest note sent to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Tbilisi expresses concern over the describing of “leaders of the separatist regimes as the legitimate authorities of the Tskhinvali region [South Ossetia] and Abkhazia.”
