President Saakashvili said on June 6 that he is not rushing to set a date for the local self-governance elections which should take place this year.
?The President should appoint the date of elections. I am not yet going to appoint [a date for] the elections ? no one should be nervous about this ? for a long time. There is so much work to be done in the city [Tbilisi] that they [opponents] should calm down and wait a bit,? Saakashvili said while visiting the facilities under construction in Tbilisi late on June 6.
In April, the Georgian President denied rumors about a possible postponement of the local self-governance elections and said that polls will take place this autumn “in or around November.”
