Opposition Leader Warns of ‘People’s Rebellion’ if Polls Unfair

Davit Usupashvili, leader of the Republican Party, part of the nine-party opposition coalition, has warned of ā€œa people’s rebellionā€ if the parliamentary elections this spring are not free and fair.

ā€œI will put it bluntly,ā€ he said. ā€œA people’s rebellion is inevitable if the upcoming parliamentary elections are held in the same way that the presidential one was held.ā€

Usupashvili’s remarks, made on Rustavi 2 TV’s political talk-show, Primetime, on January 21, are particularly notable, given his moderate credentials.
