Parliament Confirms Bill Related to Prosecutors’ Intention to Charge UNM MP

Parliament approved on April 4 with its second and third readings bill, which will allow prosecutors to press criminal charges against lawmaker from the UNM parliamentary minority group Roland Akhalaia.

The amendment, which was opposed by UNM lawmakers, removes a clause from the criminal procedure code which envisaged Parliament’s approval for prosecutors to bring criminal charges against MP.

GD parliamentary majority argued that by removing this close, the criminal procedures code was put in line with the constitution, which does not stipulate prosecutors to seek parliament’s approval for bringing criminal charges against MP.
