Mtskhetoba

Every year on October 14 thousands flock to a small town of Mtskheta, close to Tbilisi, to mark a religious celebration related to a legend according to which Christ’s crucifixion shroud was delivered in this town, which at the time was the capital of the Georgian kingdom Iberia. Mtskhetoba-Svetitskhovloba celebration centers around 11th century Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of the most revered religious sites for many Georgian Orthodox believers and the second largest church in the country after the newly built Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.
