SG Jens Stoltenberg: Ukraine, Georgia NATO’s ‘Close Partners’

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addressed the Plenary Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) in Warsaw on May 28, and spoke among others on NATO’s relations with Georgia.

“We will continue to provide practical and political support to Ukraine, to Georgia,” the Secretary General said in his remarks, adding that the two countries are “close partners” of the Alliance.

“I would like to highlight that NATO’s door remains open; we proved that last year when Montenegro became the 29th member of the Alliance, and we are also supporting other aspirants on the path towards membership and towards Euro-Atlantic integration,” the Secretary General also stressed.

Jens Stoltenberg also focused on Georgia and Ukraine at a joint press conference with Polish President Andrej Duda later today, describing the two countries as “highly valued partners where NATO has an important role to play.”

The Polish Parliament hosted the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on May 25-28, bringing together up to 260 parliamentarians from NATO member states and partners, including Georgia, to discuss issues pertaining to regional security.
