Supreme Court Chair Nino Gvenetadze Steps Down
The Chair of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Nino Gvenetadze, will resign from her post, citing health-related problems and the need to get medical treatment abroad.
In a statement published by the Supreme Court on August 2, Gvenetadze, who was elected for a 10-year term in March 2015, recapped the reforms carried out under her tenure and thanked international donors and local CSOs for their support in the process.
The President will now have to nominate a new chairmanship candidate, which will then require endorsement by the Parliament; support of at least 76 MPs is needed for a candidate to be approved to the post.
