Preliminary Results: Zurabishvili 57.98%, Vashadze 42.02%

Vote count is underway as polling stations closed at 8pm in Georgia’s November 28 Presidential runoff.

According to the returns from 1,610 (43.45%) out of 3,705 precincts, the ruling party-endorsed candidate Salome Zurabishvili and the opposition coalition’s Grigol Vashadze garnered 57.98% and 42.02% of the votes, respectively.

1,975,845 voters cast ballot in the elections, accounting for 56.23% of the total number of voters, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Two separate exit polls commissioned by Rustavi 2 and Imedi TV, placed Zurabishvili ahead of Vashadze.

If these exit polls are confirmed by official results, it means Salome Zurabishvili will become the country’s fifth president.

55 polling stations abroad will remain open until midnight, to accommodate those living outside the capital or big cities – where most polling stations are located.
