Presidential Inauguration to be Held in Telavi
Inauguration of President-elect Salome Zurabishvili will be held on December 16 in the eastern Georgian town of Telavi, administrative capital of Kakheti region.
The President-elect announced the decision on December 5, following earlier reports on two possible inauguration venues – Poti and Telavi.
Kakha Kakhishvili, head of the Government’s administration, confirmed the location in his press remarks on December 5, saying the decision was made in consultation with the country’s leaders. He also said a commission will be set up for organizational matters.
Lasha Zhvania, who is to serve as head of the incoming presidential administration, told reporters today that the President-elect’s message by holding the inauguration in Telavi was to show that “above all, she will be the president of regions, that she will pay attention to regions.”
Asked whether the choice of Telavi as the inauguration venue was because Zurabishvili lost the runoff race there, Zhvania said: “I do not rule out that this could be one of the reasons.”
