Healthcare Ministry Says Swine Flu Death Toll Is At 18

A total of eighteen people have died as a result of swine flu infection this season, the Healthcare Ministry told Civil.ge on January 18.

According to the Ministry’s press office, 835 persons remain hospitalized with severe flu symptoms (down from 845 last week), with 47 persons placed in intensive care units.

The Healthcare Ministry also reported that the flu illness figure per 100,000 persons stands at 253 cases, roughly half of epidemic levels.

According to the Ministry, the number of influenza-related medical visits and take-up of ambulance services have fallen this week, indicating general decline in flu morbidity rates.
