Enguri Crossing Point Re-opened

On February 5, the Moscow-backed authorities of Sokhumi lifted border crossing restrictions preventing residents of the region to cross to Georgia proper. Georgia’s State Ministry for Reconciliation and Civic Equality confirmed to Civil.ge that the movement along the Enguri Bridge “has been restored.”

A month ago, Sokhumi announced closure of the only crossing point, connecting the region to the rest of the country citing “adverse epidemiological situation in Georgia, related to the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza.”

Similar restrictions imposed by Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia in relation to the “swine flu outbreak in Georgia,” remain in force.
