Two men, detained for “illegal border crossing” near the occupation line with Abkhazia on February 13, have been released, the State Security Service, Georgia’s domestic intelligence agency, confirmed to Civil.ge.
The Georgian media reported that earlier today the two men were detained near the village of Ganmukhuri in Zugdidi municipality, close to Administrative Boundary Line. According to the Georgian officials, a hotline has been activated and the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) has been immediately informed.
In her remarks, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketavan Tsikhelashvili condemned the incident, saying “the occupation regime continues its ugly practice of illegal detentions” which in her words, are a part of “occupation policy” of pressuring ethnic Georgian citizens.
