Georgian officials joined world leaders in congratulating Volodymyr Zelensky on his victory in Ukraine’s Presidential runoffs on April 21.

“Congratulations to Volodymyr Zelensky for his election as Ukraine’s new President, and to the people of Ukraine for holding free and fair elections,” President Salome Zurabishvili wrote in her Twitter post. “I look forward to working with the new President and deepen our bilateral relations,” she added.

Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze took to Twitter as well, writing: “Georgia stands with Ukraine in its peaceful and democratic decision!”

Runoff between the two top contenders – incumbent President Petro Poroshenko and actor Volodymyr Zelenskiy – was held on April 21, with Zelenskiy receiving an overwhelming majority of votes (73%).
