CEC Releases Final Vote Tally of First Round of By-Elections

The Central Election Commission (CEC) released on May 27 the final vote tally of the first round of the MP by-elections in Mtatsminda constituency of Tbilisi.

According to the final vote tally, 15,022 out of 43,868 registered voters participated in the elections (34.2%). The election administration annulled 297 ballot papers.

According to the Central Election Commission, two main contenders – Vladimer Kakhadze and Shalva Shavgulidze will face each other in the second round of elections on May 9. The parliamentary seat in Mtatsminda became vacant after Salome Zurabishvili, a majoritarian lawmaker, was elected as the President of Georgia.

Georgian citizens went to the polls on May 19 to elect five municipality mayors, as well as to fill one vacant majoritarian seat in the Parliament and eight majoritarian seats in municipality councils. The ruling party candidates won elections in the first round in all districts except for Mtatsminda constituency.
