Polls Close, Vote Count Underway
Vote count is underway as 31 polling stations closed at 8pm for Georgia’s MP by-elections in Mtatsminda constituency in Tbilisi.
18,105 voters cast ballot in the elections, accounting for 41.23% of the total number of voters, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC). There were a total of 43,909 eligible voters.
Voter turnout was 34.27% (15,049 voters) at 8pm in the first round of by-elections on May 19.
The CEC will upload the final vote tallies to a special website www.results.cec.gov.ge.
The ruling party candidates won elections in the first round in all districts except for Mtatsminda constituency.
Two main contenders – Vladimer Kakhadze (Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia) and Shalva Shavgulidze (European Georgia-Free Democrats) – who finished with 41.01% and 36.84%, respectively – were facing each other in the second round.
