Court Rules Pretrial Detention for Ex-MoD Okruashvili
Tbilisi City Court ordered pretrial detention for Irakli Okruashvili, Georgia’s former defense minister (2004-2006), refusing defense motion of bail.
Okruashvili’s defense counsel Mamuka Chabashvili said following the hearing that he will appeal the Court ruling.
Police detained Irakli Okruashvili on July 25 on charges of “organizing, leading and participating” in mass violence during the unrests on the night of 20-21 June.
18 other people are also charged with group violence, including MP Nika Melia, whose freedom of movement has already been restricted by placing an electronic monitoring bracelet.
